A Quick Review

Sometimes there is no better way to give than to donate time, energy, and knowledge. Through our mission projects and trips, we help people who are struggling with the challenges of poverty, communities that lack resources to repair damage from natural disasters, and we bring God’s light to dark places of our community and world. Below, you will find a list of the different missions with which First UMC Colleyville is involved. If you are interested in signing up for any of these missions, just click the “Sign Up” button, and you will be directed to whoever is in charge of that mission’s group. If there are any documents for reading or forms that need to be filled out, then click the “Forms” or “Documents” button.

We are a community that desires to follow the ways of Jesus. We would love you to come and be amongst us.

First United Methodist Church of Colleyville is a partner church to Helping Children Worldwide’s Africa Programs, whose goal is to support at-risk children in Bo, Sierra Leone, West Africa. Sierra Leone is consistently rated by the United Nations as one of the poorest countries in the world and has been struggling to rebuild after it’s bloody civil war a decade ago, which left many children without parents or hope for a future. African Programs primarily supports two organizations in Bo: the Child Rescue Centre and Mercy Hospital.

PROJECT READ
Project Read is an outreach ministry to serve struggling readers in local elementary schools within Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.  From late September through late May, volunteers meet with their assigned students once a week for 30 minutes during school hours under the direction of the student’s teacher.  The scheduled time is based on the student’s availability and teacher’s classroom schedule.  It is a fun and uplifting opportunity to connect with the community and to find your own blessings along the way.
For more information or to volunteer, contact projectread@fumccolleyville.org

RUN FOR RESCUE

Run for Rescue is an annual 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk that supports the Child Rescue Centre in Sierra Leone, Africa. Run for Rescue is a great race for all levels of runners and walkers. We have some very fast runners, several great teams, lots of runners who jog relatively regularly, and quite a few people that make this their one race per year. We also have folks that bring their dogs or run with strollers – some of whom are very fast, and others that enjoy a good walk.

SANCTUARY FLORAL MINISTRY

We have a floral ministry with sanctuary flowers that are left over from Sunday worship. The ministry divides the sanctuary flowers into smaller vases, then delivers to members in our congregation who are shut ins, recently hospitalized, or in extended care facilities. In order to grow this ministry and touch our community, we are in need of more flowers and additional volunteers.

WEEKEND MEAL PROGRAM

Our church partners with FUMC Grapevine to provide weekend meals for children living in poverty in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. In the 2016-2017 school year, we will assist three schools- Glenhope Elementary, Bransford Elementary, and Colleyville Heritage High School. Each week a group in our church packs and delivers the meals to the school, so that no child in our school district has to go without food during the weekend.

WESLEY MEAL

Wednesday Wesley Meals are an important part of our Congregational life at First United Methodist Church of Colleyville. Various groups in the church volunteer to cook Wesley Meals in order to support their program or their mission. Mealtimes provide opportunities for us to get to know one another through fellowship, especially those who worship at different services and go to different Sunday school classes. These meals are a great avenue for inviting friends and neighbors to visit the church for the first time as well. Please come on out and experience our church’s exceptional hospitality!

YOUTH MISSION TRIPS

Every summer, the LIGHT youth group participates in a mission trip and local mission projects. As part of the overall mission statement of the UMC, we are here to make disciples of all nations through the transformation of the world. The LIGHT youth group takes the UMC mission to heart by engaging with our community, connecting to God, growing in our faith, and being challenged to serve God by loving all of God’s people.

Through the UMC and our church mission statements, the LIGHT will take a week during the summer to be the hands and feet of Jesus by serving our local community, the surrounding area and the world. During our mission trips, we develop relationships with the clients, each other, and the community in which we serve. Some of our projects have included building wheel chair ramps, making decks, painting bedrooms and houses, demolition, food and clothing pantries and so much more. We have traveled to Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas to finish these projects.

We hope you will join us this summer for missions at the LIGHT!

HOW TO JOIN A MISSION

We want to make sure you do not have to jump through hoops to sign up for helping people. To get started, download any documents and/or forms located in the description of the mission trip. Once you have fully read these documents, if you are still unsure where to go from there, send our office administrator or the mission’s contact person an email and they will walk you through the rest of the process or direct you to someone who will.

ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY

As the Administrative Secretary, I have many responsibilities within the church. One of these responsibilities is to guide our members in the right direction when interested in signing up for a church mission. If I don't have an answer for you, then I know who will.
