A Quick Review

In our children’s ministry, we are partnering with parents and guardians to raise the next generation of believers and servants! To do this in an engaging way, we use a wide variety of missions, music, arts and crafts, discipleship, and just plain fun. Our children are learning the fundamentals of our faith while developing a strong spiritual foundation.

First UMC Colleyville offers a wide variety of programming for our children. For more information about each of our programs, please click through the tabs below for a brief description or how you can get involved.

We offer Sunday School each Sunday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. for children ages 2 through 5th grade. We first meet in the Kids Connect Room for The Gathering- a time of community and fellowship for our whole children’s ministry- until 10 a.m. when the children are led to their own separate Sunday School classes.

Our nursery (newborns-3 year olds) use the Wesley curriculum and have their Sunday School in the nursery area.  The Pre-K through 3rd graders use the Group Hand’s-On Curriculum. Preschoolers meet together, Kindergarten and 1st grade meet together, and 2nd and 3rd grade meet together.  Our 4th and 5th graders use the Cokesbury Submerge curriculum and meet as one group.  During the summer months, our children’s Sunday School is rotational, giving the children the opportunity to learn the lesson through a variety of mediums and hands-on activities.

  • Nursery: Room E106
  • Preschool: Room E101
  • Kindergarden + 1st grade: Room E102
  • 2nd + 3rd grade: Room E100
  • 4th + 5th grade: FL101

At First United Methodist Church, one of our main objectives in Children’s Ministry is to provide them with a safe, welcoming environment and to provide parents with a secure knowledge that their children are safe and in the capable hands of trained volunteers. We have several processes in place to create that safe environment.  We strictly adhere to all policies and tenets of the MinistrySafe program in our volunteer selection and training.

In addition, we have a Kid Check-In process.  All kids are to be checked in on the iPad stationed outside the Kids Connect Room, located to the right of the Main Sanctuary. This iPad checks children in for the Nursery and for Sunday School, but it also prints off stickers for both the child and the parent. We ask that all children and parents wear these stickers so that we can both fully know our students and can be assured that our safety policy is be followed.

All children for the Nursery check in at the iPad Station, but are then dropped off and picked up in our Nursery in our Education Hallway, E106.

All children for Sunday School, preschool-5th grade,  will check-in at the iPad station at the Kids Connect Room and stay there for The Gathering Time until 10 a.m. Then, they will be taken to their separate Sunday School classes. When Sunday School ends at 10:45 a.m., parents will pick kids up in their Sunday School classes.

Children’s Church is available each Sunday for all services including the Traditional Services at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM, and the 11:11 AM Contemporary worship service. Children’s Church for the 11:00 AM service and the 11:11 service is combined at the 11:00 Children’s Church.  Children’s Church is for children ages 3 through 5th grade. Children’s Church teaches kids fun and different ways to worship God, while still focusing on our current sermon series for a kid’s perspective.

The children meet Miss Addie, our Children’s Director, in the back of the sanctuary immediately following the Children’s Sermon. The children may be picked up from Children’s Church in the Kid’s Connect room just outside of the Sanctuary when the service is over.

Mission Possible Kids

MISSION POSSIBLE KIDS, a.k.a. MPKids, is a non-profit organization, empowering kids to change the world by helping others — our “agents” are up to the challenge!

Welcome to Mission Possible Kids, Agents and parents!

Mission Possible Kids is our hands-on mission program for kids in grades 1-5. We focus on missions that are relevant to our children and also to our church and community so that families can be united while we serve as the hands and feet of Christ. We truly believe that each child can make a significant difference in the lives of others, and we bring excitement and energy to create lifelong servants of Christ. If you’ve never been but you’re interested, join us! We hope to work with every child in our church this year and love to have visitors from the community.  We welcome all children who would like to become “special agents doing God’s work in the world”.

MPKids meets on the first Sunday of every month in the church Narthex between outside doors number 1 and 2 from 3-5 p.m.  Each month our children and their Agent Handlers (adult volunteers) Robin McCauley and Kim Wachtel, learn about a mission need and work on a unique mission project relevant to our community or to the needs of children and adults around the world.

Sparks Tween Group(Sparks Tweens on Olympic Game Night)

Sparks (formerly known as Brandi’s Buddies) is our Tween Ministry at First UMC Colleyville. We meet every second Sunday of the month in the Event Center and is open to all 4th-6th graders who would like to join us for fellowship, discipleship, service, community and a whole lot of fun.

Sparks believes that you don’t have to be a certain age to begin to be the light of the world. We believe that, at our age, we can begin to make a difference in our families, schools, and communities in action, voice and love, and that we as pre-teens of First UMC can ignite a spark here in Colleyville!

For more information, please contact our Children’s Director, Addie Schmitz.

Family Ministry is something we take seriously here-in a good way. Between our Children’s Director, Addison Schmitz, and our Student Pastor, Omar Moore, First UMC Colleyville puts your families first from when your children are born until when they graduate. We care about providing a safe, welcoming environment, but also one where they are going to grow spiritually and communally as well. We strive to provide the tools to help family discuss devotionals and sermons- we don’t ever want what is learned on Sunday mornings to be forgotten when you leave our doors. We promise to walk alongside you as you lead your child in their walk with the Lord. We also work hard to present fun, life-giving family ministry events throughout the year that promote fellowship and community outreach. We believe that at entertaining- or even silly-events, it’s still good for kids to see the importance of being involved in the church… and that church can be fun!

So whether your family is ready to just stick their feet in the water or dive right in, we would for you to come be apart of our family here at First UMC Colleyville.
