The LIGHT Youth Group

“The LIGHT” is the name of the First UMC Colleyville Youth Ministry. We serve students in 6th through 12th grade.

In John 8:12, Jesus says “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

As a youth ministry, we are called & empowered to shine the light, truth, and love of Jesus into student’s lives in order to make them fully devoted followers of Christ.

We will discuss and seek to answer today’s difficult questions by finding out what God’s word has to say and talking with our peers about the topic. We will explore our faith in God and grow together in lasting friendships. We seek to identify who God says we are and live out His calling in our lives.

We have a welcoming environment and engaging community for our youth to feel comfortable, yet challenged in their faith journey.

Come join us!

Youth Service Times

Sunday School | 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.
Sunday Nights |  5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday Nights | 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Every Sunday morning between the Traditional and Contemporary services, the LIGHT youth group holds our Sunday School in the LIGHTHOUSE (youth building).

Our Sunday Schools classes are where we continue to strengthen our understanding of God and most importantly, our relationship with Jesus Christ. There is no need to feel like you are on the journey to discipleship on your own, come learn amongst other students who also seek spiritual guidance.

We break our Sunday school classes into junior high and senior high allowing students more discussion in an age appropriate setting.

Please plan on joining us! We would love to have you!

The LIGHT (First UMC Colleyville Youth Group) meets weekly on Sunday nights from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Event Center, starting with dinner, which is $3 for youth members and free for first time guests!

After dinner, we play games, sports, or other activities which focus on team building and ultimately fun for our students in our Event Center. After that we head over to the LIGHTHOUSE, our youth building, for worship, which is led by our youth director Omar Moore. There will be an inspirational worship followed by a Bible-based message.  Guests are always welcome and encouraged to join!

wednightbiblestudyJoin the LIGHT (First UMC Colleyville Youth Group) on Wednesday nights! We start off the night with a delicious meal prepared by various groups in the church in order to support their program or their mission. The meal and fellowship begin in the Event Center from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m.

We follow our meal with Table Talk. Table Talk is an intergenerational small group discussion during the Wednesday night Wesley Meal from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.

Afterwards we head over to the LIGHTHOUSE (youth building) for weekly bible study, and to give our students a chance to discuss current events, ask questions, find out answer, and a place to relax and rejuvenate for the rest of the week. Come join us from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!

We are getting things set for the mission trip! Keep checking back for more updated information.

ciy1MOVE is a 5-day high school only event held all over the country, designed to amplify the call of Christ on students’ lives to become Kingdom workers. Located on college campuses across the nation, Move provides a program for 25,000 high school students every summer. Students are challenged through intense, interactive worship, dynamic preaching, small group study, and community building. Students at Move not only learn and worship together but also spend quality time with their church youth group, discovering ways that God will use them to be a greater help to the world.

Move is more than just another conference or camp. Move is an experience! It’s an all-inclusive event providing food, lodging, recreational activities, and an amazing program. Move doesn’t want students to leave on a spiritual “high” that dies as soon as they get home. We strive for students to go Beyond the Event by committing to become Kingdom Workers. Cards with challenges for the upcoming year are handed out on the last day of Move and students are encouraged to commit to completing those challenges, no matter how difficult they may be.

Durango, Colorado – June 25th through July 1st  – This conference is for students entering 9th grade to those graduating high school. Students will be staying at Fort Lewis College.

Here is what’s happening in the LIGHT youth group:

This Wednesday night, March 29th, the LIGHT youth group will join the church in the event center for our Wednesday Night Wesley Meal at 5:45 pm. After the meal, we will join the church and help pack health kits for UMCOR. For more information about UMCOR and what they do, please check out their website ( If you want to bring up items to help UMCOR, they are collecting 6 inch combs, nail clippers, 1 inch Band-Aids, or a monetary donation of $12 per kit. Afterwards, we will help the children’s ministry with stuffing Easter Eggs for the EGG-Stravaganza this Saturday, April 1st. We will roughly have around 500 to 1000 eggs to pack and get ready for our children and others. I look forward to seeing you this Wednesday night!

This Sunday, April 2nd, the LIGHT youth group will be continuing with our regular Sunday School programming which begin at 9:45 am and end at 10:45 am. As First UMC Colleyville continues through our discipleship series called “The Disciple’s Path”, the LIGHT will be going through a similar discipleship/evangelism series called “Be A Bringer.” Often when we think of evangelism, both adults and students think it needs to be you on a stage or on a street corner preaching randomly to hundreds of people or only done by the church leadership such as pastors. However evangelism is simply sharing the Gospel and everybody should do it. What would it look like if we took evangelism and made it part of our DNA? These 3 weeks will help kick start this idea: This 3-week small group series is designed to get our students talking about their faith to others and to take the fear out of evangelism. This series will help our students grow more as disciples of Jesus Christ. Hope you will join us!

I have listed the topics for each week as a way to get our students thinking and talking:

Week 1- How Does Your Story Fit Into God’s Story?
This week we will be walking through how to put together students testimonies. We will help them come up with an elevator pitch testimony and a full on 3-5 minute testimony to share. How can students tell others about how Jesus can change their friend’s lives if they cannot explain how Jesus changed their life?

Week 2- Go Out, Leave a Mark
In the Bible, when people meet Jesus they go out immediately and tell others about Him. As followers of Jesus we are called to go out and love people like He calls us to love. This week we want to take a look at how we can go out and leave a mark in our homes and with friends at school.

Week 3- Who Are Your “3”?
The past weeks we have building up to this week. We have a pretty good grasp on how to write out and share testimonies. Then we talked about the importance of going out and leaving of mark of Jesus to the people who are around us and who we love. This week, we are going to talk about evangelism, but we are going to try this in a different way than normal. What if we only focused on a small group of people instead of a huge group? What if each student only focused on 3 people the entire year?

Also this Sunday night, April 2nd, the LIGHT youth group will meet from 4:30 – 7 pm. Parents, please drop off and pick up your students from Main Event in Grapevine (407 W State Hwy 114, Grapevine, TX 76051) for food, games, bowling and laser tag! Please bring $17 dollars for 1 hour of bowling, 1 game of laser tag, $10 video game card & 2 slices of pizza and a drink! I will need you to RSVP for this event by this Friday, April 30th! BE A BRINGER to this event. This will be a great event for first time guests to join us!

Every first Sunday of the month, we plan fun events so that our students will be encouraged to invite their friends who might not have a church or youth group. During these events, we typically don’t have a teaching or bible study but rather they are intended for new students to feel comfortable and welcomed in a fun environment and hoping plan on joining us again for future events and programming.

Next Saturday morning, April 8th, we will be participating or volunteering for the Run 4 Rescue. All participants will receive a t-shirt, our famous pancake breakfast and a chance to win door prizes. You can register online at For more information and/or details about the Run 4 Rescue, please contact Also you can find more information about helping and supporting the Child Rescue Centre (CRC) in Bo, Sierra Leone on their website at

We know it can be difficult to get involved and develop friendships with a new group of people you don’t know.  But, there’s good news!  The LIGHT Youth Group really wants to include YOU in our ministry.  We look forward to having you join in with us on a Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday evening, or for any of our Events.  The best advice we have for those who are reluctant to visit is this: Come!  Meet our youth!  Get acquainted with our youth pastor, Omar Moore! Give us the chance to make you feel welcome and a part of our group!

We can’t wait to meet YOU this week!

As the pastor of the youth program, I make it my mission to transform these students in a positive manner. Influencing kids to be the people Jesus wants them to be is my passion.
