Harvest America

The LIGHT Youth Group

“The LIGHT” is the name of the First UMC Colleyville Youth Ministry. We serve students in 6th through 12th grade.

In John 8:12, Jesus says “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

As a youth ministry, we are called & empowered to shine the light, truth, and love of Jesus into student’s lives in order to make them fully devoted followers of Christ.

We will discuss and seek to answer today’s difficult questions by finding out what God’s word has to say and talking with our peers about the topic. We will explore our faith in God and grow together in lasting friendships. We seek to identify who God says we are and live out His calling in our lives.

We have a welcoming environment and engaging community for our youth to feel comfortable, yet challenged in their faith journey.

Come join us!

Youth Service Times

Sunday School | 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.
Sunday Nights |  5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday Nights | 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Every Sunday morning between the Traditional and Contemporary services, the LIGHT youth group holds our Sunday School in the LIGHTHOUSE (youth building).

Our Sunday Schools classes are where we continue to strengthen our understanding of God and most importantly, our relationship with Jesus Christ. There is no need to feel like you are on the journey to discipleship on your own, come learn amongst other students who also seek spiritual guidance.

We break our Sunday school classes into junior high and senior high allowing students more discussion in an age appropriate setting.

Please plan on joining us! We would love to have you!

The LIGHT (First UMC Colleyville Youth Group) meets weekly on Sunday nights from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Event Center, starting with dinner, which is $3 for youth members and free for first time guests!

After dinner, we play games, sports, or other activities which focus on team building and ultimately fun for our students in our Event Center. After that we head over to the LIGHTHOUSE, our youth building, for worship, which is led by our youth director Omar Moore. There will be an inspirational worship followed by a Bible-based message.  Guests are always welcome and encouraged to join!

wednightbiblestudyJoin the LIGHT (First UMC Colleyville Youth Group) on Wednesday nights! We start off the night with a delicious meal prepared by various groups in the church in order to support their program or their mission. The meal and fellowship begin in the Event Center from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m.

We follow our meal with Table Talk. Table Talk is an intergenerational small group discussion during the Wednesday night Wesley Meal from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.

Afterwards we head over to the LIGHTHOUSE (youth building) for weekly bible study, and to give our students a chance to discuss current events, ask questions, find out answer, and a place to relax and rejuvenate for the rest of the week. Come join us from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!

We are getting things set for the mission trip! Keep checking back for more updated information.

ciy1MOVE is a 5-day high school only event held all over the country, designed to amplify the call of Christ on students’ lives to become Kingdom workers. Located on college campuses across the nation, Move provides a program for 25,000 high school students every summer. Students are challenged through intense, interactive worship, dynamic preaching, small group study, and community building. Students at Move not only learn and worship together but also spend quality time with their church youth group, discovering ways that God will use them to be a greater help to the world.

Move is more than just another conference or camp. Move is an experience! It’s an all-inclusive event providing food, lodging, recreational activities, and an amazing program. Move doesn’t want students to leave on a spiritual “high” that dies as soon as they get home. We strive for students to go Beyond the Event by committing to become Kingdom Workers. Cards with challenges for the upcoming year are handed out on the last day of Move and students are encouraged to commit to completing those challenges, no matter how difficult they may be.

Durango, Colorado – June 25th through July 1st  – This conference is for students entering 9th grade to those graduating high school. Students will be staying at Fort Lewis College.

Here is what’s happening in the LIGHT youth group:

This Sunday, February 26th, the LIGHT youth group will be continuing with our regular Sunday School programming which begin at 9:45 am and end at 10:45 am. We will be starting a new series over Lent, as we help our students prepare their hearts to celebrate Easter. Hope you will join us!

Also, this Sunday afternoon from 2 – 4 pm, our church has a unique opportunity thanks to our deepen our relationship with Congregation Beth Israel. We will co-host a very timely drug education program featuring nationally known speakers Bob Stutman and Judge Jodi Debbrecht Switalski. This opportunity comes to us free of charge. Congregation Beth Israel is hosting the event, and the youth will meet in the Events Center at First UMC Colleyville, while the parents will have a separate session at Congregation Beth Israel.

Currently, the youth will meet in the Event Center here at First UMC Colleyville. Registration is required.  Click the registration link and enroll both yourself and your youth. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors to this as well. Refreshments will also be provided by Congregation Beth Israel.

Please RSVP by emailing our office HERE. For more details on this event, please click HERE.

This Sunday night, February 26th, the LIGHT youth group will meet at 4 pm, instead of 5 pm due to the other program. We will pack lunches for the Weekend Food Program, and painting the youth building as a form of service.

This Wednesday night, March 1st, the LIGHT youth group will join the church in the main sanctuary for our Ash Wednesday service at 7 pm. The Ash Wednesday service emphasizes a dual encounter: we confront our own mortality and need for God’s grace by confessing our sin within the community of faith. The imposition of ashes can be a powerful nonverbal and experiential way of participating in the call to repentance and reconciliation. We will NOT have a Wesley Meal or Wednesday night programming on this night. I’ll see you there.

Next Sunday, March 5th, the LIGHT youth group will be continuing with our regular Sunday School programming which begin at 9:45 am and end at 10:45 am. We will continue with our Lenten series.

Next Sunday night, March 5th, the LIGHT youth group will meet for our regular Sunday night programming.

On Friday, March 10th through Saturday, March 11th, the LIGHT youth group will be hosting our annual Spring Break Lock-In. We will start off the night going to the Dallas Mavericks vs. Brooklyn Nets basketball game at 8 pm. I am currently working on more details for the lock-in, but at this time, I have purchased 20 tickets for $20 dollars each a person. I will need you and/or your student to RSVP for the lock-in and basketball game. We will plan on leaving the church around 6:00 pm on Friday, March 10.

This will be a special night for us and others. Each year, the Dallas Mavericks invite family, friends, church groups and other religious organizations to join them for their Faith & Family Nights. On these nights all faith-based groups, family and friends are invited to come down to the court after the game and take a POSTGAME SHOT ON THE BASKET! The LIGHT youth group participated in this event two years ago and had a great time. I missed my postgame shot so I’m hoping to make up for it this time!

The cost for the night will be $30 for activities and snacks. Please RSVP so that I will know how many volunteers and sponsors we need. I will rent either one or two 15 passenger van for the night, but may need additional drivers for the game. Parents, I will need your help with providing snacks & to stay at the church throughout the night. If you are unable to do an entire night, which I completely understand, please consider doing a two to three hour shift.

Please respond as soon as possible so that I can have a good count of volunteers.

We know it can be difficult to get involved and develop friendships with a new group of people you don’t know.  But, there’s good news!  The LIGHT Youth Group really wants to include YOU in our ministry.  We look forward to having you join in with us on a Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday evening, or for any of our Events.  The best advice we have for those who are reluctant to visit is this: Come!  Meet our youth!  Get acquainted with our youth pastor, Omar Moore! Give us the chance to make you feel welcome and a part of our group!

We can’t wait to meet YOU this week!

As the pastor of the youth program, I make it my mission to transform these students in a positive manner. Influencing kids to be the people Jesus wants them to be is my passion.
