Harvest America

The LIGHT Youth Group

“The LIGHT” is the name of the First UMC Colleyville Youth Ministry. We serve students in 6th through 12th grade.

In John 8:12, Jesus says “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

As a youth ministry, we are called & empowered to shine the light, truth, and love of Jesus into student’s lives in order to make them fully devoted followers of Christ.

We will discuss and seek to answer today’s difficult questions by finding out what God’s word has to say and talking with our peers about the topic. We will explore our faith in God and grow together in lasting friendships. We seek to identify who God says we are and live out His calling in our lives.

We have a welcoming environment and engaging community for our youth to feel comfortable, yet challenged in their faith journey.

Come join us!

Youth Service Times

Sunday School | 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.
Sunday Nights |  5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday Nights | 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Every Sunday morning between the Traditional and Contemporary services, the LIGHT youth group holds our Sunday School in the LIGHTHOUSE (youth building).

Our Sunday Schools classes are where we continue to strengthen our understanding of God and most importantly, our relationship with Jesus Christ. There is no need to feel like you are on the journey to discipleship on your own, come learn amongst other students who also seek spiritual guidance.

We break our Sunday school classes into junior high and senior high allowing students more discussion in an age appropriate setting.

Please plan on joining us! We would love to have you!

The LIGHT (First UMC Colleyville Youth Group) meets weekly on Sunday nights from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Event Center, starting with dinner, which is $3 for youth members and free for first time guests!

After dinner, we play games, sports, or other activities which focus on team building and ultimately fun for our students in our Event Center. After that we head over to the LIGHTHOUSE, our youth building, for worship, which is led by our youth director Omar Moore. There will be an inspirational worship followed by a Bible-based message.  Guests are always welcome and encouraged to join!

wednightbiblestudyJoin the LIGHT (First UMC Colleyville Youth Group) on Wednesday nights! We start off the night with a delicious meal prepared by various groups in the church in order to support their program or their mission. The meal and fellowship begin in the Event Center from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m.

We follow our meal with Table Talk. Table Talk is an intergenerational small group discussion during the Wednesday night Wesley Meal from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.

Afterwards we head over to the LIGHTHOUSE (youth building) for weekly bible study, and to give our students a chance to discuss current events, ask questions, find out answer, and a place to relax and rejuvenate for the rest of the week. Come join us from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!

We are getting things set for the mission trip! Keep checking back for more updated information.

ciy1MOVE is a 5-day high school only event held all over the country, designed to amplify the call of Christ on students’ lives to become Kingdom workers. Located on college campuses across the nation, Move provides a program for 25,000 high school students every summer. Students are challenged through intense, interactive worship, dynamic preaching, small group study, and community building. Students at Move not only learn and worship together but also spend quality time with their church youth group, discovering ways that God will use them to be a greater help to the world.

Move is more than just another conference or camp. Move is an experience! It’s an all-inclusive event providing food, lodging, recreational activities, and an amazing program. Move doesn’t want students to leave on a spiritual “high” that dies as soon as they get home. We strive for students to go Beyond the Event by committing to become Kingdom Workers. Cards with challenges for the upcoming year are handed out on the last day of Move and students are encouraged to commit to completing those challenges, no matter how difficult they may be.

Durango, Colorado – June 25th through July 1st  – This conference is for students entering 9th grade to those graduating high school. Students will be staying at Fort Lewis College.

Here is what’s happening in the LIGHT youth group:

This Wednesday night, April 19th, the LIGHT youth group will join the church in the event center for our Wednesday Night Wesley Meal at 5:45 pm. After the meal, we will join the church for Table Talk from 6:15-6:45 p.m. Table Talk is an intergenerational small group discussion about faith that gives us a chance to get to know different people in our church and to learn from people who are older or younger than us. Then we will move over to the LIGHTHOUSE (youth building) for a night of questions and answers. Too often, we as a church don’t allow our students to ask and seek out questions about the Bible and life. These nights are designed to have our students ask questions and seek out answers in a safe atmosphere and receive a biblical response to their questions.

Due to our church and conference policy of Ministry Safe, if we do not have two unrelated adults who are able to meet for Wednesday night youth group we will meet at a local area restaurant or not be able to have Wednesday night activities for our youth. If you are able to come and volunteer your time on Wednesday night and have gone through the Ministry Safe training, please let me know. If not, we will meet this week at Market Street after Table Talk.

This Sunday, April 23rd, during our typical Sunday School hour, the LIGHT youth group will be taking the next two weeks to watch the movie “Jesus Christ Superstar.” We will start the movie at 9:45 am and end at 10:45 am. Hope to see you there!

Also, this Sunday night, April 23rd, the LIGHT youth group will meet from 5 – 7 pm. We will start off the night with our Sunday night meal (All first time guests are free, otherwise bring $3 dollars for food). Afterwards we will be packing lunches for the Weekend Food Program. Since we have just finished our series on “Be A Bringer”, we are going to work on writing out encouraging cards and notes to give to friends, family, and others. One of the best ways to serve others is through our words and uplifting their spirits. So get ready to write and think up scriptures and words of encouragement for ALL!

Every fourth Sunday of the month, we will serve God, our church & community in various missions. These nights are designed for our students to grow deeper in their faith through serving others. So encourage them to come, bring friends, and most importantly to bring a servant’s heart.

Next Sunday, April 30th @ 2:05 pm, the LIGHT youth group and Commune (young adults ministry) will have a chance to eat delicious foods and much more as the Texas Rangers take on the Anaheim Angels. Over the past couple of years, the Texas Rangers have partnered with artists, who are followers of Jesus Christ, for a post-game concert. These concerts take place on the field immediately after the game is over. On this day, we will have a chance to listen to the artist Lecrae. If you don’t know about Lecrae or his music, please check out this link ( Hope you will join us for a fun afternoon of baseball and music!

P.S – As an added bonus, it will be PowerAde Rangers Duffel Bag (First 15,000) & Blue Bell Ice Cream Sunday ($1, 13 & under). We purchased 35 tickets for $15 dollars per person. You better get your ticket before they are gone!

Please RSVP by this Sunday, April 23rd if you are wanting to go. We will NOT have youth on this Sunday night as this will be our programming. This is a family event so parents are encouraged to come along as well.

A Tisket, a Tasket, a High School Senior’s Basket…

I know that it seems like yesterday that they were playing around the church and now, they are preparing for college. Our seniors are about to embark on a new journey of their life. As a church, we want to partner with them on this journey by being in constant prayer and being a blessing to them. Over the next several weeks, you have an opportunity to help our seniors in both ways. We will be collecting items to organize in a Senior Basket to help this transition go as smoothly as possible.

We will honor and recognize them on Senior Recognition Day, Sunday May 21st so the baskets will need to be ready by then. We will have clothes baskets near the elevator awaiting contributions from our church. The last day to contribute to the senior baskets will be Thursday, May 18th. Some of the items we will need are power strips, microwave popcorn, umbrellas, flashlight & batteries, laundry detergent, fabric softener, paper, pens, roll of paper towels, cleaning wipes, and etc.

We have 7 seniors that we would like to prepare baskets for. If you are unable to get these items, you may donate a monetary amount to the church with a footnote of the purpose and we will be glad to purchase items to fill the baskets.

I can remember my church family preparing me spiritually, mentally, and physically for this new journey of my life. I know that these students will never forget your kindness shown to them by showing love and serving them.

If you have a High School Senior please check with the front office to make sure your senior is on our list. We don’t want to leave anyone out.

Thank you for all you do for our students!

We know it can be difficult to get involved and develop friendships with a new group of people you don’t know.  But, there’s good news!  The LIGHT Youth Group really wants to include YOU in our ministry.  We look forward to having you join in with us on a Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday evening, or for any of our Events.  The best advice we have for those who are reluctant to visit is this: Come!  Meet our youth!  Get acquainted with our youth pastor, Omar Moore! Give us the chance to make you feel welcome and a part of our group!

We can’t wait to meet YOU this week!

As the pastor of the youth program, I make it my mission to transform these students in a positive manner. Influencing kids to be the people Jesus wants them to be is my passion.
