    Neighborhood Table-October 11

The Fall season is on its way and will bring the next Neighborhood Table on Wednesday, October 11 at 6pm in the Event Center.  Be ready for a great meal provided by the United Methodist Women.  Your donation of $7 per person or $20 per family of three or more will go to GRACE, specifically their Christmas Cottage.  UMW will be preparing ham, scallop potatoes, green beans, salad and dressings, rolls, desserts, tea and water.  You’ll want to be first in line for that!

Christmas Cottage is a GRACE program that provides new, unwrapped gifts to families facing financial hardship due to limited income or recent emergency.  Our church will be helping provide toys and other gifts.  Bring an unwrapped to the October 11th  meal to help kick off the toy drive.

    Project Read

Do you want to be involved in our community and help a child to read?  Then our Project Read program at Glenhope Elementary School may be the right fit for you!  In past years of the program, the principal of Glenhope Elementary, Dr. Wynette Griffin reported that the average test scores for Kinder through 2nd grade at Glenhope outpaced the average test scores for the district and she said that our FUMCC volunteers who faithfully read with their students, some who face difficult challenges, greatly contributed to their success.

Project Read volunteers are partnered with a student to provide 30 minutes of one-to-one tutoring each week from October through May during school hours.    It is expected that volunteers may miss an occasional week due to vacations, etc.

    Meadows Museum Visit

Want to see a Sermon? Join the Art & Faith Sunday School class for lunch followed by a trip to the Meadows Museum on Sunday, October 15.

Each Sunday at 10AM, the Art & Faith Sunday School class comes together and engages a great piece of art from the Christian tradition. Believe it or not, Da Vinci, Caravaggio, and Rembrandt preached but instead of using words, they used paint and canvases.

The class invites all who are connected with the church to join them on Sunday, October 15, immediately following the 11:11 Worship Service, for lunch at the Colleyville Black Walnut and a trip to the Meadows Museum of Art.

    Fall Bible Study

This year’s Fall Bible study is “Words of Life: Jesus and the Promise of the Ten Commandments Today,” by Rev. Adam Hamilton. Nearly everyone has heard of the Ten Commandments, the list of “thou-shalt-nots” found in the Bible. Jesus saw these commandments not as onerous burdens, but as guideposts to help us experience a good and beautiful life.  In this book of Scripture and inspiration, bestselling author Adam Hamilton brings modern eyes to the most important set of ethics in history. He considers the commandments in their historical context, considering the meaning of each commandment in Hebrew, unpacking how Jesus reinterpreted them, and showing how every thou-shalt-not was intended to point to a life-giving “thou shalt.” He also explores how the latest research in science and psychology illuminates these commandments, rightly understood, as a way of ordering one’s life beautifully in the present day. In a culture marked by workaholism, materialism, and social media-driven envy, God has given us a time-tested path that leads to gratitude, confidence, and peace.

Our 6-week Bible Study will meet on Sundays, October 1st – November 12th, from 6:00-7:15 p.m. (No bible study on 10/29 because of Trunk or Treat). This Bible Study will be a hybrid format, which means you can participate in-person or online via Zoom. Those who meet in person will gather in FL204 at FUMCC!  To sign up for Fall Bible Study, click HERE.
